Meet Shandzu the Kenyan Sand Boa! Isn't he gorgeous? He's brown and orange, a bit like a Terry's chocolate orange. He is fully grown but as you can see, he's tiny. I asked my friend Ketso who lives in Kenya what to call him, and he suggested Shanzu as it's a really sandy place in Mombasa. He is very shy so will need to settle in before he meets any children. You can't really see his sweet little face as its a bit blurry so I will take more pictures of him. He spends most of the time under the sand and it's awesome watching him move about, like something out of a science-fiction movie...
I let Rango hang out for a bit in the bay tree in the garden. It has nice solid branches, has plenty of cover and is my height so he can't go too high. He was very excited watching everything and enjoying a light breeze. As the weather warms up I'll take him out a bit more. Of course I nervously hovered next to him worrying about him! I'm terrified a seagull will spot him and swoop down and peck him. I could set up an umbrella over the tree...
I know, I know, just an unexotic pair of moggies! But, I've had so many children ask about my pet cats, that I have promised them a picture. The big tabby is Smokey, he's 10 years old and very sweet and affectionate. He loves to sit with me in the animal room and watches me at work with great interest. If he is allowed he likes to sniff the animals, but he never touches them. He is not allowed on people's laps for too long as he starts to drool uncontrollably with emotion, yuck. Sherlock is the grey, he is 3 and incredibly naughty and hilarious. He is allowed to sleep on my daughters bed sometimes, as he just goes to sleep and doesn't mess about. She has trained him to drape around her neck like a scarf and he just hangs there. He is in love with Lola my snake, although he needs to be careful as one day she'll be big enough to eat him. This is another reason to padlock the snakes cage!
