So my male Peruvian Black Beauty died recently. He was literally ancient, moving very slowly on his privet leaves, his eyes cloudy with age. I was incredibly privileged to witness his actual demise. He literally keeled over and that was that. Sad face. :-(
So..I have replaced him with 2 tiny babies. This one was so small that he escaped and I found him wandering around the animal room admiring all the mantis cages...while they slavered and drooled in a scary savage way at him. He now has a teeny tiny cage with a teeny tiny pot of water and privet until he is big enough. I'm afraid I might have 2 males so a third one is on the cards. I'll wait and see.... Rango has clearly been admiring the ripped jeans look and decided to copy...Ok, I'm kidding...but he really looks pretty scruffy here. He doesn't often shed all over in one go but when he does...
I have to keep spraying him with water to soften/loosen the skin. It depends if it grosses you out or not but I LOVE helping him peel it off. Depending on his mood (he is a massive diva after all) he likes you to help or, has a massive tantrum(shaking his head and puffing air out of his mouth and crawling backwards). The peeled skin is surprisingly thick (twice that of Lola's skin). Yes, Frazoo-ers I have saved you some skin to look at...yuck. I went to some cool craft classes and made some Frazoo stuff...The wooden book and boxes are made by pyrography. This is drawing on wood with a hot wire 'pen'. I also printed Rango on a sandwich box! It was so much fun to do. I have put Lola's shed skin in the snake box and stick insect eggs in the eggs box. I only had an hour or so to do all the wood otherwise I would have done more decoration, never mind...I also made some nice enamel jewellery, some disastrous candle-dipping and engraved some bugs and butterflies on a glass. Crafting rules!
I couldn't resist posting this picture of Toothless. He looks soooo cheeky. He proved it by jumping straight towards the camera one second later. You can see his 'cats eyes' clearly in this photo and the beautiful fringing around his eyes. Another name for them is Eyelash Gecko and you can see why...
Biscuit normally sheds her skin in patches and eats them...I was lucky enough to catch her just as she began a 'whole shed'. I helped her peel it off very carefully and I have kept it. I'm sure she won't mind letting me have ONE shed...especially as I can now show it to my Frazoo children!
