Giant East and West African Land Snails
(Achatina fulica and Archachatina marginata)

Picture
These are found all over the tropical parts of Africa. My snails are captive bred in this country which means they have not been wild caught in Africa, but their ancestors were, a long time ago.

Their  favourite food is cucumber and they are very friendly. If you wet your hands first they will move happily across your hands and may even lick you with their tongues(it tickles!) They are absolutely huge so you have to be careful not to drop them.

I have no snails currently but I'm on the look-out for a really big one...

Fascinating fact: they are hermaphrodites so they are boys and girls at the same time!
